Saturday's Full Moon in Capricorn

Collage by Chani

Transformations are ugly. Molting is messy. Renewal comes via the vehicles of destruction. We must go through the painful process that is progress in order to grow, the silver linings of which aren’t always evident upfront. The silver linings of which aren’t available for consideration beforehand. The silver linings of which aren’t always the point.

When we are confronted with change, we are forced to confront the ways in which we deal with it. We are reminded of how change was forced upon us as young ones. We are reminded of issues that lie within the foundations of our being. Tucked away. Hidden until awoken. Unnecessary to dwell upon daily, but important to keep in mind constantly as these are the issues that, once triggered, plunge us into a series of emotional states.

The body remembers. Holds on to old ways of relating to upsets. Sends us messages. Warnings. Alarm bells from our somatic systems.

But the mind often forgets. Takes a minute to catch up. To register what is occurring. To find a way to remember that, so far, we’ve made it through every difficult thing that we have been up against and we’ll most likely do the same with regards to whatever it is that is occurring in this moment. As long as we can take time to register the feelings that are present. As long as we can succumb to the discomfort that is an integral component to growth. As long as we remember that transformations test our faith in the process.

Have faith in your process.

On July 8th at 9:06 PM PT, the full moon will bloom at 17° of Capricorn. Sitting within a degree of Pluto, the deity of the underworld, this full moon is aiming to take us on a journey. One that asks us to purge what cannot support us in the long-run. One that asks us to acknowledge the systems and the structures that cannot support the weight of our potential. On that asks us to accept the difficulties in our lives so that we can be part of discovering the solution to it.

Pluto is a planet that removes from us what we no longer need. Though we might disagree with its assessment, it is not a planet to argue with. Its alchemical process is one that promises discomfort, but it also promises transformation. We are a culture that is transfixed by the before and after shots. We love a story of triumph over tragedy. We need icons of redemption and renewal, but we mustn’t simplify the truth so much that we fail to build the muscles that teach us how to withstand the aches, upsets and uneasiness that transformation produces.

Perhaps the most valuable thing that we can learn in life is how to develop the kind of inner structure that is both sturdy and flexible, solid and adaptable, hardy and responsive, so that we can hold the heart-breaks, bear witness to our struggle and be with the uncertainty of our path.

Full moon blessings,

Chani
